Signs of the times

The work has to be quick, to fit in.  Ink on paper and watercolor are wily and expressive media.  The simplicity at the surface belies the complexity of technique, which is similar to these works on paper themselves.  The method is well suited to quick bursts because the water needs time to dry out, leaving the pigment on the paper, before another quick reworking of the images.  Water flows from the brush and dries within its surface tensioned boundaries.

My boundaries are tensioned, my internal waters are roiling, on many fronts.  These pieces are a pressure release.  A friend recently reassured me: " I like the round shapes. They have presence. I like the writing because they’re like slogans that make no sense. It’s playful and also serious."

This is a glimpse of new work, in preparation for an exhibit in April at the Angell Street Galleries.  I hope to see you there.
